Getting There

By Car

  • From Calais (ferry and Eurotunnel) 305 miles. This is usually the route we take, via Paris on the  A1, A6 and A77.
  • Caen (ferry) 270 miles
  • Le Havre (ferry) 247 miles
  • St Malo (ferry) 334 miles

Mesves sur Loire is just off junction 27 on the A77 (5 mins from the village)

By Air

Nearest airport is Orly 124 miles via A6, A77.  Both these roads are fast and the A77 is nearly always empty

There are flights to Orly from Luton with Transavia (transavia.com) and from Southampton with Flybe (flybe.com).

By Train

Eurostar to Gard du Nord, then cross Paris to Gard de Bercy. From Gard de Bercy there are direct trains to La Charite sur Loire.  If you are hiring a car we suggest you continue to Nevers where you can hire a car at the station.  Nevers to Mesves by car is 21 miles along the A77.  The train journey from Gard de Bercy to La Charite or Nevers is 2 hours.  This is my husband's favourite route.

We enjoyed four nights at this delightful cottage last week, and it surpassed all expectations. The cottage itself is pristine, with lovely spaces outside and inside to dine and really gorgeous decor. ...
